Monster Jam History

Monster trucks began in the 1970s, simply as trucks with a raised suspension that were used to get over obstacles or for truck-pulling competitions. Around 1980 several monster truck owners began to demonstrate their trucks’ abilities by driving over other vehicles, known as car-crushing. Videos of these demonstrations gained the attention of an event promoter and one Bob Chandler was asked to use his truck “Bigfoot” to crush cars in front of a crowd.

The sport began to take shape and the Monster Truck was redesigned to be taller, lighter, and faster using; straight-rail frames, fiberglass bodies, as well as lighter axle components.
