Main Street Theater was built in 1975 to accomodate an expanding Houston population with a wider variety, and style of artistic performances. It was likewise built to find a home for local Houston talent, that otherwise had only 1 or 2 places that they could turn to.

In 1981 that theater was moved to a larger, 91 seat venue at Rice village. This still creates a very small, intimate setting for performances, with virtually nothing to seperate audience from performers.
