Houston Roller Derby History

The Houston Roller Derby began in 2005, and currently has more than 40 skaters participating in the program. As a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, they compete against other leagues within the WFTDA. With three home teams, the Bayou City Bosses, The Brawlers, and the Psych Ward Sirens, the Houston Roller Derby is not an organization to mess with. Their best team, however, is their travel team, the HaRD Knocks, which was created in 2006. This team is the most talented, with skaters handpicked from each of the home teams. They train three times a week, and in 2009 they were among the top twelve teams chosen to compete in the WFTDA’s national championship. For the 2011 season, the Houston Roller Derby moved to a new venue, Houston Indoor Sports. The season lasts from April through October, and the bouts are held on the third Saturday of every month.
