Houston Aeros History
The Houston Aeros began playing hockey in 1994 under the International Hockey League. They chose the name Aeros out of respect for the original Houston Aeros who played hocked during the 1970s under the World Hockey Association. In 2001, the IHL folded, and the Aeros became one of many teams to join the American Hockey League. The Houston Aeros made another switch in 2003 when they left the Compaq Center and began playing in the Toyota Center. Today the Aeros are the AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild.
